On June 7, 2022, the Notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Education (MOE) on the Announcement of the List of National and Provincial First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Projects in 2021(No. 14 [2022] of the Department of Education and Higher Education) was issued. The English Major of the School of Foreign Studies has been selected as a national first-class undergraduate major construction unit and the Russian Major a provincial-level first-class major construction unit, marking significant breakthroughs in discipline and major development.
The “Double Ten-Thousand Program” hosted by the MOE aims at building ten thousand first-class majors on provincial and national levels respectively in a three-year span. According to the Notice on the Implementation of the Double Ten Thousand Plan for the Construction of First-Class Undergraduate Majors, the whole SFS has strived for the development of majors and discipline and applied for the 2021 first-class undergraduate majors based on accurate analysis of MOE policies and the construction of its majors. The English major and the Russian major both achieved huge progress in the First-class Major Construction through online application, assessment of competent authority, and recommendation and voting by MOE Higher Education Steering Committee.
Guided by the spirit of the new liberal arts construction as well as the principle of moral education, the SFS will further promote the competence of its majors and give substance to the development of first-class undergraduate majors. Seizing the valuable opportunity of the Double Ten Thousand Plan, the SFS will endeavor to achieve the leapfrog development in both major construction and talent cultivation.
