“Life is of paramount importance. Where there is an epidemic, there is an order. To prevent and control epidemic is to take responsibility.” Under the strong leadership of the university’s party committee, the School of Foreign Studies implements the epidemic prevention and control policies formulated by the university and takes various measures to fight against COVID-19. Students, faculty and staff stay on their posts to keep all work in good order.
Parents join School to defeat COVID-19
The current epidemic situation concerns teachers, students and parents. “We will cooperate with the university and win this ‘war without smoke’!” “With solidarity, we will work with the School to defeat COVID-19!” Many warm messages like these are sent by the parents in their WeChat group after they read “A Letter to All Students” and “A Letter to Parents” which were issued by the School of Foreign Studies. They give the university’s epidemic prevention and control measures thumbs up and express their willingness to join hands with the School to overcome the difficulties.
Parents’ encouraging messages
Online teaching remains high quality
Since March 14, online teaching has been fully in work in the UPC. The staff team on student affairs and student cadres on campus cooperate with teachers off campus in classroom management, forming a picture of shared efforts for a better teaching order. Facing the new situation of COVID-19 epidemic, the SFS attaches great importance to prevention and control arrangements, ensuring that all work is well done in accordance with the requirements. The SFS cares about students’ study and life and cooperates with teachers to keep up normal teaching through the Internet. Joint efforts are encouraged in the School to win the battle against COVID-19.
Students taking online courses
Teachers of the SFS actively prepare lessons, pretest devices and organize classes, to meet a proper emergency response and ensure online teaching works well. Teachers conduct online teaching through VooV Meeting and Rain Classroom etc., providing students with resources for online learning and striving for “non-stop teaching with high quality”. The teachers of the SFS overcome difficulties and conscientiously improve online teaching, to complete the teaching tasks and guarantee students’ effective learning.

Students discussing questions online
On March 16, led by Party Secretary Zhang Wei, Vice Dean Zhang Jianke and students’ counselors investigated how well online teaching and anti-epidemic measures work in classrooms. Mr. Zhang Wei attended College English (4-2), Academic English: Reading & Writing, etc. with students, and inspected the teaching efficiency as well as the functioning of online teaching devices. To ensure that students are studying and living in a safe and hygienic environment, the supervisory team focused on the execution of the university’s epidemic prevention requirements in classrooms, such as students’ mask-wearing, “sitting-in-separated-row” rule, and the sanitation in classrooms.

“Though I’ve attended online courses before, this is my very first time having online courses together with all my classmates in classroom. The University and the SFS redouble efforts to meet our study and living needs, which makes me feel very warm.” Says Shi Haojie, an English major from Class 1903.
Nucleic acid tests help safeguard campus health
As anti-epidemic measures on campus scale up, the university has conducted multiple rounds of nucleic acid testing. During this period, students and staff of the SFS actively cooperate with the volunteers and medical workers to complete the testing in an orderly manner. Daily spot-checks and multiple rounds of mass nucleic acid testing have been completed and provided valid results without leaving out anyone.

Warm hearts, helping hands
Despite distance, Covid-19 cannot isolate warm hearts. Facing the haunting coronavirus, the whole school shares warmth with real actions. In the work of quarantining students from areas listed as having a medium or high risk of infection, the school made rapid responses and worked out orderly plans while safeguarding students’ health and safety. Every monitor assumes the responsibility of delivering food to the quarantined classmates for their necessities. With sustained epidemic prevention and control, student cadres take the initiative to inspect the hygiene of dormitories and ensure there is no regulation-breaking behaviors. Based on this, they lend a certain warmth to the cold discipline management. And scores of students show their support for epidemic response on campus by joining the Fight Coronavirus Together Youth Volunteer Care Team.

Joint efforts for anti-epidemic success
Winter will eventually pass, and spring is sure to come. Working in solidarity, students of the SFS give full support to the anti-virus measures across the university. They even use encouraging slogans as a tool to expand the army fighting against the epidemic. Among the sophomores in English major, students from Class 2001 write that after the pandemic comes a more delightful spring and Class 2002 express their expectation that fighting the virus and embracing the spring together. All of this fully exhibit their trust and support for the school’s efforts in epidemic response.
