A face-to-face Q&A meeting for graduate students and teachers of School of Foreign Studies was held on the afternoon of May 25, 2021. Prof. Mao Haoran, Dean of the School of Foreign Studies, Associate Prof. Liu Yanqin and Xu Xiaoyan, Teacher Li Yanyun, Pan Lixia, Liu Yuanyuan, Sun Jiping and Shen Dan, and some graduate students and undergraduate students attended the meeting.
The graduate students gave reports based on their recent research progress and their presentation covered many fields such as functional equivalence theory, legal translation, principle of faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness, reader-response theory, reception aesthetics, machine translation, and speech act metonymy. Meanwhile, undergraduate students also shared their spiritual growth and existing problems when writing graduation theses.
Prof. Mao Haoran made detailed comments on students’ presentation. He especially pointed out that when doing research, we must adhere to the problem-oriented approach, read valuable and high-level literature, and refuse “rubbishy literature”. He also suggested that students should broaden their field of research, internalize new knowledge and output them creatively. The teachers present also commented on presentation, answered questions and provided constructive suggestions for the students based on their own scientific research experience.
The meeting enjoyed warm atmosphere, and teachers and students present all expressed that they had gained a lot. The face-to-face Q&A meeting for postgraduate students helps to understand learning and research situation of postgraduate and undergraduate students timely, and puts forward targeted suggestions, which will help improve the quality of talent training in our school.
