Forum on “Talk with the Famous Professors — ‘Thinking for Change’ for Teaching and Research Community” was successfully held by School of Foreign Studies on May 16, 2021.On this forum, Xu Jinfen, professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, talked about “The Reform and Practice of Foreign Language Education Based on The Linkage of Teaching and Research in The New Era” and Zhang Wenzhong, professor of Nankai University, shared “Consciousness of Theory in ELT Paper Writing”.
Prof. Mao Haoran, the dean, delivered the opening speech, on which he stressed the formation of linkages between teaching and research and the establishment of connections within and between the schools. In addition, he proposed the concept of an all-round community of teaching, research and life.

Professor Xu Jinfen shared her views and research with the teachers from seven aspects, such as how to define the new era and what is the linkage between teaching and research. She pointed out that the development of foreign language disciplines and the training of person who excellent in foreign languages under the background of the new era have become the hot topic of discussion. In this situation, the linkage between teaching and research was the inevitable trend of the professional development of foreign language teachers. Reflection was the most convenient and direct way for the linkage of teaching and research while the corresponding academic research should be carried out in combination with the curriculum setting of the university, and the ideological and political research of the curriculum should be emphasized at the same time. In the end, Professor Xu put forward a lot of practical suggestions for teachers from macro, medium and micro perspectives.

Professor Zhang Wenzhong shared his experience with the teachers from normative consciousness and theoretical consciousness. In terms of paper review and paper revision, he believed that strengthening theoretical and normative consciousness, revising and polishing the paper several times and appropriately will make it more perfect.
