On the afternoon of April 26, the Central Group of School’s Communist Party Committee held a seminar for theoretical learning in Room 346, Arts and Sciences Building. The seminar was presided by Zhang Yongning, head of the School’s Party Committee. All members of Central Group of School’s Party Committee and representatives of Party branch secretaries also attended.
In the seminar, Secretary of School’s Party Committee Zhang Yongning delivered the spirit of in-depth study of General Secretary Xi’s important speech spirit during his visit to Tsinghua University notified by China’s Communist Party Group of the Ministry of Education. Then, through the analysis of CPC history learning and education, Deputy Secretary of School’s Party Committee Zou Weizhong took Xi’s visit to Tsinghua University as an entry point, led all members present at the seminar to study Xi’s speech on “Double First-Class Initiative”, and illustrated how to put Xi’s theories into practice.
Dean Mao Haoran talked about his study experience. He noted that General Secretary Xi’s thought provided a guideline for the development of the School. All faculties and students should study the spirit of Xi’s speech, and put Xi’s spirit into academic and moral education.
In terms of their specific work, all members present talked about their own understandings from different perspectives. In the seminar, all agreed that when faced with new challenges during the development of the school, we should further innovate and explore new solutions in order to enhance our school’s reputation and profile.
Zhang Yongning made a conclusion to the seminar. He pressed that, under the guideline of General Secretary Xi’s speech, our university has put forward the integration of education with industries, of college with enterprises, and among disciplines. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), for the development of new liberal arts and the school itself, the School of Foreign Studies must cultivate new growth drivers for Arts and Humanities by cooperating with other schools in UPC, so as to take interdisciplinary as a “catalyst” for the development of the school. In the meantime, we should set up innovative teaching teams and academic research teams for the purpose of making breakthroughs in a few years. Teachers should be the vanguard of culture dissemination, imparting knowledge, cultivating abilities and shaping views of life, world and values.
Finally, Zhang Yongning worked out schedules for recent school activities of CPC history learning and education. He requested every Party branch and Youth League branch to carry out a school-wide study and discussion of the spirit of Xi’s speech, and implement this spirit into the specific work for school development.
