School of Foreign Studies held the Teaching Innovation and Design Forum

In the afternoon of March 11, the School held a forum on teaching innovation and design for the Talent Cultivation Quality Year in south building 107 for the aim of moral education and education innovation. Professor Zhang Weidong from School of Petroleum Engineering and heads from other Schools are invited to attend the forum and give keynote speeches. Zhai Honghua, dean of the College of Foreign Studies of Shandong Agricultural University, and members in her group attend the forum. Zhang Qingrong, deputy director of the Teacher Work Department is also present, along with all leaders and executives of the School at all levels, with Han Shuqin as a host.

Zhang Qingrong delivers an opening speech and points out that teaching innovation and design should be the focus of teaching discussion amid the increasingly complex and diversified personalized learning experience of students. She highly affirms the leapfrog in this field of School.

Zhang Weidong, professor of School of Petroleum Engineering, shares teaching innovation and design experience on the basis of optional course of Petroleum Culture in Home and Abroad. He stresses to keep pace with the times, use the new Internet technology platform to create more convenient and practical teaching methods. According to the characteristics of his course, he puts forward the ideological and political teaching mode of taking role model as examples, which expands the red gene of Daqing spirit and Iron Man Spirit into petroleum spirit and academician spirit in the new period; in addition, Zhang has also established a multiple evaluation method, which uses real-time tests and bullet screen to examine students' intelligence and emotional quotient, so as to fully assess students' professional ability and promote students' all-round development.

Zhen Yuhua, associate professor of School of Material Science and Engineering, shares teaching experience on the topic of Telling Sound Stories, Stimulating Inner Motivation. She finds that there are three major problems in college students: confusion and indulgence, anxiety and helplessness, and disconnection between learning and life. She points out that teachers should pay more attention to students, so as to make innovation in content, process and evaluation of teaching. She stresses the need to tell excellent and professional stories to stimulate students' interest in the course.

 Wu BaoGui, associate professor of School of Mechatronic Engineering, shares teaching design and practice with the theme of Back forward and Innovation. He summarizes his core teaching idea as summarizing the past, turning the difficult into easy. He stresses that the classroom should full of vitality and efficiency in accordance with the features of courses.

 Li Shibao, associate professor of School of Oceanography and Space Informatics, makes a report on the course of Mobile Communication. Based on his case, he proposes a learning method of preview, listening and review, which focuses on the organic integration of knowledge, ability and quality. Considering the shortage of learning time of students, he puts forward the integration of the first classroom with the second classroom, which ensures the teaching quality and provides an innovative solution.

 Lin Hong, associate professor of School of Pipeline and Civil Engineering, points out it is necessary to help students build self-confidence in teaching process. In addition, in view of the discipline problems such as the inability to integrate theory with practice, teachers should be good at introducing cases to facilitate students' understanding and interest with vivid practical cases, guiding students to think diligently in daily life and to connect professional knowledge with daily life.

 Dean Mao Haoran expresses his heartfelt thanks to all the professors for their wonderful sharing in closing speech, and sums up his feelings in five aspects: first, joyful. He is glad to the present of five professors and the sharing of their experiences; second, regretful. It is regretful that teachers from liberal arts did not obtain achievements in the Teaching Innovation Contest, and students failed to achieve satisfactory score in the national major professional competitions; and many teachers cannot realize the shortcoming or keep pace with the times in teaching practice; third, anxious. He expresses his concerns on all kinds of problems existing among faculty, and subjective and objective pressure faced by them, and he stresses that the teachers should take this forum as an opportunity to narrow the gap so as to achieve sustainable development; fourth, considerate. He points the importance of teaching evaluation, and of objective analysis of extreme cases. More guidance and encouragement should be given to students; fifth, attentive. He asks faculty to sum up their experience and reflection with 5+2 mode, and to apply what they have learned so as to jointly build national and provincial first-class courses, even for national first-class majors.
