On March 12, 2021, Symposium on Energy Cooperation in SCO is held at the School of Foreign Studies, China University of Petroleum (East China). This symposium is jointly organized by the Management Committee of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Demonstration Zone, China University of Petroleum (East China) and Qingdao Heying Silk Road International Energy Development Co., Ltd., and undertaken by UPC’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) National Energy Humanities Research Center. The attendees include Zheng Shi, minister and Pi Guiqiao, commissioner of Marine Cooperation Department of SCO Demonstration Zone Management Committee, Wang Yuxiao, general manager and Li Zehang, deputy general manager of Qingdao Heying Silk Road International Energy Development Co., Ltd., Jin Yujie, director of Liberal Arts Construction Office of China University of Petroleum (East China), Zhao Chunlu, deputy director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department, Zhang Yongning, secretary of School Party Committee, Sun Daman, associate dean of the School and director of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) National Energy Humanities Research Center, Guo Yueqin, associate dean of the School, Zhou Peng, dean, Wang Jun, executive associate dean, Zhang Tao, assistant Dean, and Gao Xinwei, professor of School of Economics and Management, Yang Chaohe, dean of college of Chemical Engineering, Guo Wen, party secretary of college of Oceanography and Space Informatics, and Wang Zhenbo, director of Professor Committee of School of New Energy.
The symposium is presided over by Zhang Yongning, secretary of School Party Committee. On behalf of the School of Foreign Studies, he welcomes the leaders, experts and scholars attending the meeting and expresses the College’s active support for Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) National Energy Humanities Research Center to actively carry out its work in combination with the characteristics and advantages of foreign language disciplines. This is how can we build a platform for cooperation between relevant colleges of the school and SCO Demonstration Zone and be a pioneer in serving Shandong and Qingdao, and to become a “Demonstration Zone” for all-round cooperation between the University and the SCO Demonstration Zone. Zheng Shi, minister of Marine Cooperation Department of SCO Demonstration Zone Management Committee, introduces the basic situation of SCO Demonstration Zone, believing that China University of Petroleum (East China) has distinctive characteristics of schooling and great advantages in scientific research, talent training and achievement transformation in the field of energy. He expects the two sides to strengthen comprehensive cooperation in international cooperation and exchange, marine science and technology and comprehensive utilization of resources, marine ecological and environmental protection, international talent training, etc., and participate in the development of China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization Demonstration Zone together. Director Sun Daman introduces the basic situation and operation mode of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) National Energy Humanities Research Center, as well as the operation of the center. Subsequently, attendees have in-depth exchanges on cooperation areas and methods of common concern among the three parties. A broad consensus has been reached on the preparation of SCO National Energy Industry Research Institute, the demonstration of the transformation of growth drivers in Shandong Refineries, the feasibility study of Maritime Silk Road, the joint holding of international conferences, the joint declaration of major national projects, the joint training of international talents, the collaborative education of government, industry, academia and research institutes, and the twinning of grass-roots party branches. After the meeting, Dean Mao Haoran accompanies Minister Zheng Shi and his party to visit the School History Museum, and has an in-depth exchange on the key points of the “last mile” of the series of projects.
This symposium is the first important activity undertaken by UPC’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) National Energy Humanities Research Center since its establishment. The Research Center was established in June 2020 by the Administrative Committee of China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone, China University of Petroleum (East China) and Qingdao Heying Silk Road International Energy Development Co., Ltd. It officially settled in the national living room of China-SCO Demonstration Zone in December 2020. Focusing on “academic research”, “talent training”, “cultural exchange” and “think tank research”, the Center will hold large-scale international forums, special seminars, expert symposiums and other activities.
