Shandong Provincial Final of the 2020 FLTRP Cup National English Competition for Schools undertaken by School of Foreign Studies was successfully held on January 10, 2021. More than 1,200 competitors and expert judges from eastern Shandong competition area gathered at UPC. The final was successfully held after an intense day.
With the concept of “Close To Me, Close To World” and “Foreign Language Cultivates Speculative Philosophy, National Knowledge Illuminates World Stage”, this competition inherits and spreads Chinese and foreign cultures. This competition section was divided into “Talk To The World” (prepared speech) and “Talk To The Professors” (impromptu Q & A). During this competition, confident and energetic high school students showed their excellent expression and application ability about English. It also indicated the new tendency of cultivating students’ English application ability and provided the guide of teaching reform and quality improvement to UPC.
Wang Xinbo, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Studies of UPC, led a working group of teachers and 50 student volunteers to help the organization and coordination of the competition. Admired by the considerate and patient services, they also seized this opportunity to actively carry out the enrollment propaganda work by setting the boards and delivering over 2000 relative materials, which attain UPC a better influence and reputation among these high school students.

The 2020 FLTRP Cup National English Competition for Schools is one of the 35 national competitions for primary and secondary school students in 2020 announced by the Ministry of Education. At present, it is an important reference to test English capacity in the college entrance examination for many universities.
