On November 9, a delegation of UPC visited the China-ASEAN Center, with the members of Mao Haoran, dean of the school of foreign languages, Huang Fang, director of the international cooperation and exchange department, Wang Lin, director of the student employment guidance center, relevant leaders of the school of petroleum engineering, School of Geosciences and technology, and relevant teachers of the Student Employment Guidance Center, who are responsible for promoting graduates to practice and work in international organizations. Wang Hongliu, director of the comprehensive coordination department of China-ASEAN center, He Fei, deputy director of the press and public relations department, and representatives of various departments had a discussion with the visiting delegation of our university. The two sides exchanged views on carrying out project cooperation, promoting exchange visits and implementing student internships.
Huang introduced the development history and general situation of the school, as well as the foreign exchange and cooperation and international construction of the school to the representative of China-ASEAN center. Wang Lin briefly introduced the efforts made by UPC in supporting graduates to intern and work in international organizations.
Wang Hongliu briefly introduced the development history, main business and achievements of China-ASEAN Center, and gave affirmation to Ma Teng, a master from School of Foreign Studies, who is currently taking the internship in the Center. She said it is essential to comply with the needs of the times to train international talents with international vision, knowledge of international rules and capability to participate in international affairs and competitions. Representatives of the Information and Public Relations Department, Education, Culture and Tourism Department, Trade and Investment Department and Comprehensive Coordination Department of the China-ASEAN Center introduced their businesses respectively.
The two sides communicated in several fields, including the cultivation of international talents, intern recruitment, cultural exchanges, project research, news publicity and so on. Mao expressed his hope that the cooperation between the two sides could confront the actual situation, strengthen each other mutually, be effectively project-driven and implemented practically, so as to realize long-term sustainable friendly cooperation. After in-depth discussions, China-ASEAN Center agreed to be the practical partner of talent cultivation for international organizations, and regularly receive outstanding students selected by our school for internship. In addition, the two sides have reached broad cooperation intentions in carrying out cooperation projects and promoting exchanges and visits. The delegation also visited the China-ASEAN Center Photo Exhibition.
Since 2018, UPC has made various efforts to send undergraduates to intern in international organizations. For instance, three intern training camps were held and eight students were selected to visit the United Nations, OPEC, the European Union and other international organizations; UPC has sent students to participate in the propaganda and consultation activities of United Nations organizations, established the UPC global governance and international organization development talent center, and trained 38 elites in Qingdao. The university will further promote college students to practice and work in international organizations by giving more support, expanding channels, and innovating training methods.
