On September 25, the first “Meet in SCO Cup” Russian speech contest of Shandong Province (College Group) was held in Jinan. Four contestants from our school participated in the contest. After the fierce competition, Tan Yajing, Master of Russian Translation (2019), won the first prize; Lu Yijiao, Bachelor of Russian Translation (2018), Xu Danning and Meng Chaomin, Master of Russian Translation (2019), won the second prize. Tan Yajing will represent our university to attend the final held in Shanghe Demonstration Zone in Qingdao in late October.
“Meet in SCO Cup” is a provincial event which is jointly organized by Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone of China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) , the Translators Association of Shandong Province and the Secretariat (Shandong) of the Sino-Russian Alliance for international Cooperation in Education. It belongs to humanistic education of “Meet in SCO” which is a brand communication activity planed by Shandong Foreign Affairs Office, and it is an important measure to implement “Provincial foreign Affairs Office’s Opinions on Serving for the Construction of Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone of China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization”. The event provides talents and intelligence support for the construction of Shanghai Demonstration Area. 84 students from 31 universities of Shandong province participated in the semifinal.
Russian teachers of our school attached great importance to this speech contest, and organized a guidance team composed of Zhao Tingting, Sun Daman, Zhou Ruiping, Alieke and Meng Honghong to polish students’ speech content and corrected students’ pronunciation and intonation repeatedly. The results fully demonstrated our students’ professional skills and high-level cross-cultural communication ability. Meanwhile, they also benefited a lot from this competition, just as Tan Yajing said: “Although the preparation process is tough, all the efforts are worth it. I will further improve my responds ability and strive for better results in the final.”
