On September 9, 2020, Yan Zifeng, executive deputy dean of the Graduate School, Lu Hongling, director of the Research Department, Ji Linhai, director of the Recruitment Office of the Graduate School and Wang Xuecai, director of the academic Level Office came to the School of Foreign Studies to investigate the postgraduate work. Mao Haoran, dean of School of Foreign Studies, Zhang Yongning, secretary of the School Party Committee, Xu Wanzhi, director of the Committee of Professors, Sun Daman, Han Shuqin and Guo Yueqin, deputy deans, Zou Weizhong, deputy secretary of the School Party Committee, and other persons in charge of relevant departments of graduate students attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Mao Haoran, dean of the School.
At the meeting, deputy deanSun Daman, who is in charge of graduate work, made a theme report on graduate work of the School of Foreign Studies, and elaborated on the current situation of degree program, existing problems, proposed solutions and expected support from four aspects. After that, dean Mao introduced the School’s plans and measures in the aspects of training program revision, tutor quality improvement, flexible talent introduction and the construction of interdisciplinary doctoral programs. He pointed out that it is very important to determine the discipline direction in the training program, that the improvement of the tutor’s quality plays a role in guaranteeing the quality of postgraduate training, and that the introduction of high-level talents can effectively promote the further development of the School.
He expressed that the school would make the establishment of interdisciplinary doctoral degree programs as a goal in the next few years and suggested the school should actively explore the integration of the humanities education for undergraduate and graduate students. Attendee had a heated discussion and in-depth exchange of views on the graduate work. As a representative, Zhang Yongning, Secretary of the School Party Committee, thanked the Graduate School for its long-term care and support for the development of foreign language discipline and the School. He also mentioned that the School would further strengthen the construction of the talent training platform and the tutor team, and earnestly improve the quality of the foreign language discipline and the training for all graduate students. At last, Yan made a summary speech, saying that the Graduate School would fully support the graduate work of the School of Foreign Studies and try to help the School solve the bottleneck problems in the development process.
As a phased summary and a prospect of the graduate work of the school in the future, this conference is significant for strengthening the discipline construction and improving the quality of graduate education.
