Professor Wang Zonghu on "Asian Factors in Russian Culture"

On July 30, the third lecture of the 2020 Graduate Student Online Academic Lecture Hall series was held by the School of Foreign Studies. Professor Zonghu Wang from Capital Normal University was invited to give an academic lecture entitled “Asian Factors in Russian Culture”. The lecture was presided over by Vice Dean Sun Daman. Relevant faculty members, postgraduate students of grade 2019 and some undergraduates attended the lecture online.

This lecture consists of three sections: basic introduction of Professor Wang's research and academic achievements; detailed explanation on The Asian factors in Russian culture based on his own perception by Professor Wang; and discussion between Professor Wang and students.

First, Professor Wang introduced the current situation of foreign language subject and emphasized that the foreign language learners should establish the concept of “learning language is learning culture”. Explaining the feature of Russian culture form the perspective of five “transformations” and the Eurasian nature of Russian culture, he put forward that “Asian nature is the foundation of Russian culture”. Then, Prof. Wang analyzed in details the beginning of Ross civilization, the influence of the Byzantine civilization and the rule of Tatar Mongol. Prof. Wang pointed out that the national development must be rooted in the national culture. At the end of the lecture, he supplemented the conference content from the aspects of music and literature, and stressed the comprehensive cultivation of students’ cognition of language learning from the aspects of history, literature and art.

In the interactive part, Professor Wang gave careful and patient answers to the questions raised by students, and pointed out that students should learn languages in its culture and become translators with cultural connotations.

This lecture not only broadens the cultural horizon of our students, but also provided new ideas for their future course learning and academic researching.
