The School carried out a survey on the departments’ 14th Five-Year Plan” and listened to their conclusion on their 13th Five-Year Plan from Jun. 15 to 17.
The meeting was held in Room 358 of Liberal Arts Building by leaders of the School who are responsible for contacting each unit of the School. Ten units, including Department No. 1 of College English, Department No. 2 of College English, Department of English Language and Literature, Department of Russian Language and Literature, Department of Postgraduate Foreign Language Teaching, Department of Postgraduate Teaching Management, Office of International Affairs, Office of Student Work, Liberal Arts Experiment and Service Center, and Labor Union reported their achievements, work with characteristics, problems to be solved during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the 14th Five-Year Plan, Party-building and its culture, etc. Members of the departments attended the meeting.
School’s team of leaders showed recognition to each unit’s performance during the 13th Five-Year Plan period and had a thorough discussion with the attendees about matters concerning the School’s development, such as opportunities and challenges, bottleneck in the school’s development, prominent conflicts in the reform, and so forth. And then, Zhang Yongning, the Party Secretary, analyzed and assessed how the “13th Five-Year Plan” went on from six aspects including the discipline construction, teaching staff, talent cultivation and scientific research, exchange and communication, the Party-building and its culture. Besides, he talked about the planning work of the 14th Five-Year, emphasizing that every unit should make “goals explicit, keys prominent, problems well-targeted, objectives clear, feature distinctive, measures proper and be fully implemented”, and attach much importance to the planning of the 14th Five-Year, giving the goals, measures and implementation full consideration. The achievement of the School’s overall goal is based on that of every small goal of each unit.
In accordance with the overall deployment of 14th Five-Year Plan in UPC, the School started the formulation of its plan in early May, and issued Work Plan on the Formulation of the 14th Five-Year Plan for the School of Foreign Studies (Issue 3, 2020 by the School of Foreign Studies), and will continue to revise the plan. The School will take the opportunity to improve the quality of talents cultivation, enhance faculty’s teaching and researching ability, make subjects of Liberal Arts better serve Engineering with new characteristics, orient the develop of foreign studies to energy. This will lay a solid foundation for the establishment of a “teaching and research institute with obvious advantages in talent cultivation in universities across the country and with distinctive features in energy-related foreign language research”.
