On December 23, the 2019 New Year Symphony Concert of China university of petroleum was held in the gymnasium. Sheng Hua Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Choir of UPC presented a series of wonderful performance. Wang Yong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Zhang Lingling, Vice President of UPC, responsible person of Qingdao west coast new area and other distinguished guests attended the concert with teachers and students of the university.
With Xu Xuemin, the national first-level conductor, serving as the conductor, the orchestra and the choir of UPC jointly performed many Chinese folk tunes and foreign musical pieces such as My Motherland, Luxury Train Polka March, Hungarian Dances, Carman Overtune and Ju Hua Tai. The perfect performance of the symphony chorus song Fueling the Sun brought the 2019 New Year Symphony Concert into the climax.
Composed by Xu Yi, Zheng Shengkun and Wu Wenshan, the symphony chorus song Fueling the Sun reviewed the accomplishment based on oil of the UPC through its 65-year history, showed the restless spirit of UPCers and looked to the future. The school development centered on oil without which it shouldn't have made such splendid achievement. Trough this chorus, we can see the unity and hardworking of the university. The work demonstrated a unique perspective of literature and music, formed by grand narratives and delicate descriptions and displyed the 65-year development history of China University of Petroleum with a large-scale LED screen, comprehensive integration of various artistic styles like chorus, ensemble, lead, poetry recitation as well as multimedia and gorgeous dance lighting design.
Within an hour and a half of the concert, 15 applauses rang out throughout the audience. Stay true to the mission, press forward with indomitable will, continue to pursue excellence, and dream for the future, with the concluding words, the audience sounded a long thunderous applause, which not only showed heartfelt thanks to performers, also sent the most sincere New year wishes to the country and the university.
“Skr, what a wonderful UPC New Year Symphony Concert it is!” “This Symphony Concert presents an audio-visual feast for us! I really enjoy what I am listening and seeing!” “Beyond time and space, this symphony unfolded a magnificent history in front of us that touches me impressively.” Teachers and students have posted pictures and videos on social media platforms like Microblog, Wechat and Tik Tok. Zhao Shuai, a student of Grade 2015 from Petroleum Engineering College, said: “The UPC New Year Symphony Concert has witnessed the inheritance and innovation of campus culture.”
In order to perform well in this concert, teachers and students have been taking arduous rehearsals for two months. Ren Xingyu, a freshman majoring in music said that, “ Participating in New Year Concert is an endorsement for us. It has witnessed our continuous breakthrough in self-improvement and excellence. Furthermore, we felt all efforts were paid off, when we heard own beautiful songs on scene.”
This concert was hosted by publicity office of Party Committee and College of Arts, and performed by Sheng Hua Symphony Orchestra. Founded in July 2013, China University of Petroleum Symphony Orchestra is currently one of the 60 professional symphony orchestras in universities nationwide and one of the professional symphony orchestra in only a few universities of Shandong Province, and has performed many times in Qingdao and Dongying. Since its establishment, the orchestra has taken the mission of popularizing fine art, playing the melody of the times, enriching the campus culture and carrying forward the spirit of petroleum university, and the responsibility of enhancing the humanistic accomplishment of teachers and students. It has played prominent role in the building of campus culture.
