Meng Gaohan from English major won the third prize of National Energy Industry Translation Contest

On November 3rd, after fierce competition, Meng Gaohan, a junior student majoring in English major of College of Arts, won the third prize in the final of the 3rd National Energy Industry Translation Contest which was held at China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in Changping District, Beijing. Sixteen competitors from well-known universities participated in the competition.

With the continuous deepening of international cooperation and exchanges, the importance of cultivating high-quality, compound and applied translators is increasingly significant. In order to strengthen cooperation and communication among petroleum universities, discover and cultivate a new generation of translation talents, as well as promoting the development of translation disciplines and relevant teaching and practice, China University of Petroleum (Beijing) organized the first “Sinopec Cup” National Petroleum Technology Translation Competition in 2014 (After changing its name to the Energy Industry Translation Contest). This year’s contest is the third one which has a high impact as over 600 students from more than 100 colleges and universities across the country took part in the preliminary contest.

Through this competition, students from English major have fully demonstrated the professional ability and comprehensive quality, expanded the influence of English major and accumulated rich competition experience, which has built up a solid basis for the future. This competition has aroused the enthusiasm of the students in our college in learning English and promoted the construction of English practical teaching as well.
