The students who are English lovers actively participated and had a heated discussion.Foreign teachers, Russ and Scott, gave a passionate speech and introduction to American culture.Guo Yueqin, professor from the College of Arts, encouraged and inspired the postgraduate students to speak English. The atmosphere was enlivened and warm.
Several students said that it was the first time to speak English with native English speakers. They were nervous at the beginning but later they were enjoying themselves. The students expressed their fondness for such English activities and strong learning atmosphere. Because of the importance of oral English, they hope that there will be more activities in the future. They also hope that the students who have got exemption from English could participate into English Corner to inspire those who are not good at English.
Under the guidance of the leaders of the Graduate School and the College of Arts, the English Corner is organized by Prof. Guo Yueqin, the dean of the Graduate Foreign Language Teaching Department of the College of Arts, with coordination of their teachers. Moreover, the Academic Affairs Office and the International Office have provided support to this activity.
Prof. Guo said that “Double-first-class” Construction cannot be achieved without the essential support of basic courses such as basic foreign languages. We must pay close attention to basic course teaching, focus on language practice, and try our best to improve graduate students’ language competence and international academic communication ability.
