Postgraduate Students of College of Arts Won the Second Prize in the 2018 University Students’ Moot Court Competition in Qingdao

The 2017 postgraduate students of College of Arts, Wang Junsong, Ren Tianyi, Hou Xiaolin, Liang Qiqi, Zhao Zenghui were on behalf of UPC to attend the 2018 University Students Moot Court Competition in Qingdao and won the second prize. This activity was held in Ocean University of China on May 5th and 6th.  

This competition was hosted by Ocean University of China, and six teams from universities in Qingdao (Shandong University, Qingdao University, etc.) took part in it. The excellent performance of the students from UPC was highly appreciated by the judges, showing their full pre-contest preparation and flexible response capability.

The preliminary contest adopted the cross competition system. In this phase, all teams debated about a dispute over companys sales contract between Hebei Shengluo Technology Development Co., Ltd and Qingdao Nigang Structure Co., Ltd. As the plaintiffs agents, Ren Tianyi and Hou Xiaolin competed with the defendants agents from Ocean University of China. Liang Qiqi and Zhao Zenghui played the role of defendants agents and argued with the plaintiffs agents from Qingdao University. With their solid knowledge and theories of law, the contestants from UPC displayed their critical thinking skills in both the court investigation stage and the debate stage and advanced to semi-final as the first place of the group. In the semi-final, students from UPC beat the opponents from Qingdao University of Science and Technology and reached the final. Ultimately, team from UPC gained the second prize. Zhao Zenghui was awarded the tittle of The Best Agent.

After the contest, the students from College of Arts communicated with other participants positively and exchanged learning experiences widely. Not only did this competition consolidate students knowledge, but it also improved their practical ability.
