The 2ndAcademic English Forum on Petroleum Humanity is successfully held in UPC on 11th, March, which is hosted by College of Arts and co-hosted by English Association of UPC. Party Committee Secretary Zhang Yongning, Dean Wang Shuting, and Vice-dean Wang Xinbo attended the forum.
After two rounds of debates, ten students entered into the final defense contest. Contestant Wu Yuying, from School of Economics and Management, won warm applauseswhen he elaborated on the harm of wind energy. Contestant Yuan Zhou, from School of Petroleum Engineering, and Contestant Shi Yidian, from College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, explainedways of tapping ocean energy resources. Next came Lu Zhengchuan, also from College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, and Chen Kaiwen, from School of Petroleum Engineering, prescribed analternative energy solution to conventional energy problems. Then Contestant Dai Mingqi, from the School of Economics and Management, discussed financial cost spent in China’s alternative energy enterprises.
All the ten contestants assumed unique perspective. They had fierce battles with tongue and made their utmost efforts to defend their own points. The forum invited teachers from College of Arts to be on-site judges, they are Liu Ruiqin, Pan Lixia, Yang Fang, Zang Changyan and foreign teacher Katherine. At last, Wu Yuying, Shi Yidian, Yuan Zhou and Chen Kaiwen won the first prize; other contestants won the second prize.
This forum brings a big cultural feast to all UPCers. It improves students' communication capabilities in academic English, and promote our academic-English teaching, having positive impact on the construction of campus culture.
