Cooperation Talks with Missouri S & T

On July 17th, Sheng Hong, an associate professor of Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) came to our College to discuss the project of Cooperation and Exchange between Missouri S & T and China University of Petroleum (UPC).

Sheng Hong introduced the Cooperation and Exchange project, which was established by the Missouri S&T and China University of Petroleum (UPC), to those students who major in English language and literature and major in economics and trade. The whole activity is presided over by Sun Daman, the vice dean of College of Arts, attended by teachers in the English language and literature department.

 For studying abroad, Sheng Hong introduced the department of business and information in Missouri S&T. She said, as a public university, the tuition fee there is far less than that in private universities. Besides, Missouri S&T ranks comparatively top in America universities, which has the same level as the main campus of Saint Louis University. Although Missouri S&T is featured with engineering courses, but its business school has the authentication of international standard AACSB, which was one of those few business schools who owns the authentication. The department of business and information set curriculums accommodating the information era and adopted advanced facilities in teaching, creating an academic atmosphere for international students. Sheng Hong also answered questions raised by college students about the situation of accommodation there, the tuition waiver and the selection of majors.

 Afterwards, a welcome ceremony for Sheng Hong was held by the dean Wang Shuting, the vice dean Wang Xinbo and Sun Daman, the deputy secretary of party committee Yang Wucheng and some representatives of teachers and students.

In the ceremony, Wang Shuting extended his welcome to Sheng Hong. He pointed out that the talent exchange cooperation with Missouri S&T is one of the key points in developing our foreign exchange items. He hoped that multiple cooperation with College of Arts can be developed based on the present cooperation. Sheng Hong said the college education in China is well-equipped with various advantages. The quality of college students in China is high. She hoped the cooperation can involve more excellent college students to experience the American education. Opinions also exchanged on the cultivating model of “2+2” and “3+2”, work-study programs and so on.

Sheng Hong, a doctor and an associate professor in Missouri S&T. She was not only in charge of the information science and technology evaluation laboratory but also the director of the department of business and information in graduate faculty. She worked perennially as an editorial board member in JAIS, JCIS and other journals and participated in organizing many international meetings. She is one of the members in many scientific projects of the National Science Foundation, whose amount of patronage was over one million dollars.
